Ewbank and Associates added services: Providing HDPE Pressure Tests
Ground heat exchangers (ghex) are buried in the earth and a testing procedure should be used to determine if it is fused properly and does not have small leaks.
Prior to commissioning a ghex and coupling it to the facility, the ASTM designated test procedure F 2164-02 should be conducted on the high density polyethylene (HDPE) piping.
Ewbank in-situ thermal conductivity test units record the data for the ASTM F 2164-02 test, including the specific site information of the ghex and the pressure during HDPE pipe testing. Test pressures are up to 1.5 times the design rating for the HDPE piping, therefore, the engineer of record, the owner, and the HDPE pipe manufacturer would determine the maximum pressure of the test using this method. For an overview of this method click here. This testing confirms, for the owner, the integrity of the ghex to start the long service life that a ghex delivers.
